As a child, I was always fascinated by soccer. Growing up, playing barefoot in the streets, fashion and the World Cup were the farthest things from my mind. I was daydreaming about making that perfect strike, perfect pass or the shot that scored the goal. (I still play soccer, and have those same daydreams!)
Over the next few weeks, millions of viewers will be drawn to the grandeur of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. This exciting tournament has the power to thrill soccer fans, inspire young soccer players, spark political controversy, and inspire fashion.
Fashion, in turn, has always eventually inspired home décor. Will the vibrant green, blue and yellow hues of Brazilian soccer fever find their way into living room and interior fashion across the U.S.?
Will designer rugs and custom furniture reflect these changes as well? If history is any indication – think World Cup, South Africa, four years ago – there’s a very good chance they will.
“It’s a fashion show at the World Cup,” said Antonio Zea, director of soccer innovation at Adidas, in the New York Times. “A kid wants to be Messi. A kid wants to be Beckham. We understand that. We know what it means for them to see the stars wearing something.”
This year, apparently, even the color of shoes will be inspired. Check out the New York Times article and find out more!
