The buzz in the design industry is still referring to the new color of the year, and how to use it. In truth, this is not a new color, and we have seen evidence of it showing up for the last couple of years, however this is the year Pantone is predicting it will dominate the design landscape. In case you missed it, Pantone once again keeps things light and fresh with the color of the year for 2017 with “Greenery”. After choosing two colors last year, Pantone has decided to go back to just one color of the year. While last year’s Color(s) of the year relied on classic staples like Blue and Pink; we see them move into a more earthy yellowish green, embodying warmth while bringing us into spring and representing new life. While many commentaries have tried to make this a representation of the past years tumultuous political war, it may quite simply just be the next trend in color, as it has been evident in the current marketplace.
With the Holidays over and New Year’s Resolutions being broken everywhere we look, “Greenery” can be what we want it to be. The brightness of the color is connotative of spring and new growth, warm sunshine breaking away from the harsh winter, and a of course beginnings. As usual with the color of the year, we have been seeing hints of “Greenery” over the past year in new cars, runway fashion, and even kitchen appliances. Color trends are simply that, yet good trends will stick around for years to come.
